该1:2 万军之耶和华如此说：“这百姓说，建造耶和华殿的时候尚未来到。”
该1:3 那时耶和华的话临到先知哈该说：
该1:4 “这殿仍然荒凉，你们自己还住天花板的房屋吗？
该1:5 现在万军之耶和华如此说：你们要省察自己的行为。
该1:6 你们撒的种多，收的却少；你们吃，却不得饱；喝，却不得足；穿衣服，却不得暖；得工钱的，将工钱装在破漏的囊中。”
该1:7 万军之耶和华如此说：“你们要省察自己的行为。
该1:8 你们要上山取木料，建造这殿，我就因此喜乐，且得荣耀。这是耶和华说的。
该1:9 你们盼望多得，所得的却少；你们收到家中，我就吹去。这是为什么呢？因为我的殿荒凉，你们各人却顾（原文作奔）自己的房屋。这是万军之耶和华说的。
该1:10 所以为你们的缘故，天就不降甘露，地也不出土产。
该1:11 我命干旱临到地土、山冈、五谷、新酒，和油，并地上的出产、人民、牲畜，以及人手一切劳碌得来的。”
百姓顺从上帝的命令

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,
In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest:
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, ruler of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD's house should be built.
This is what the Lord Almighty says: "These people say, 'The time has not yet come for the Lord 's house to be built.' "
These are the words of the Lord of armies: These people say, The time has not come for building the Lord's house.
Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, It is not the time for us to come, the time for Jehovah's house to be built.

Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your ceiled houses, while this house lieth waste?

Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways.
For this cause the Lord of armies has said, Give thought to your ways.
Now therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it."
Much has been planted, but little got in; you take food, but have not enough; you take drink, but are not full; you are clothed, but no one is warm; and he who gets payment for his work, gets it to put it into a bag full of holes.

You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the Lord Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house.
You were looking for much, and it came to little; and when you got it into your house, I took it away with a breath. Why? says the Lord of armies. Because of my house which is a waste, while every man takes care of the house which is his.

Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.

Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit.
